It’s still the same show and still great. But all that time worrying does provide a fresh opportunity to appreciate what makes the show tick, and why it resonates so strongly six seasons later. In short, producer and showrunner Dan Goor makes every second count.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is what it has always been: Kind, quick, and very, very funny. The entire ensemble is working at the height of their abilities.

The first two episodes feature a characteristic blend of low-brow humor (a running gag involving novelty T-shirts, including one boasting a picture of a thong-wearing pineapple and the word slut), detailed deconstruction of said low-brow humor (“Is the pineapple the slut, or is it calling someone a slut?”), office comedy (a turf war erupts over the break-room microwave), and unexpected literary references (Jake reads Walt Whitman--who knew?). It’s smart, silly, good-natured, and very Brooklyn.

If anything, the series feels more in a groove than it did when it was young and new and still surprising.

In the first two episodes, the humor is there, the heart is there, and the plot progresses much as it would've on Fox.

[The jokes are funny] but it’s a bit subdued. The upside is that the aforementioned emotional honesty comes through loud and clear, but one hopes that Nine-Nine will get a bit more of its usual pep in its step as the season progresses. If the writing and direction don’t always benefit from the subdued tone, the performances, and Braugher’s in particular, absolutely soar. Every member of the cast has timing that’s as good as ever.

There was lots of life left here. If these first couple of episodes are at all representative, there still is. (But still too bad about Peretti's departure.)

After coming back from an almost-cancellation and switching its network, it's still as charming as ever.

Brooklyn 99 getting picked up by NBC was the best thing. Great season premiere. "This B needs a C in her A" line was hilarious!

The new characters were boring, the jokes were stale, and the writing seemed lazy. I had a few chuckles at some moments from Captain Holt's awkwardness or Jake's idiocy, but the majority of it seemed lazy and overdone. This was all compiled together in a boring and basic story line. As someone who enjoyed the first 4 seasons of the show, I was surprised that after watching a few episodes of season 5 I had no desire to continue. Expand

    This show has seriously declined.

The characters aren't multi-dimensional enough for 6 seasons.

Boyle was great in the first couple of seasons. Now they've overdone him so much - with Nicolaj and the Pizza mouth feel and the weird food and creepy family stuff - that he's become absolutely unappealing.

Terry is probably the worst character in the show. Either him or Diaz. They both got old really quick. Terry Crews always plays the same big black guy. He was the same in Everybody Hates Chris. He's like Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop and Junior. But not as good an actor. He butchers a lot of lines... and it doesn't help that one of his only character traits is that he likes yoghurt. I don't know how many times they've mentioned that, now. It wasn't even remotely funny the first time. I don't even understand how it qualifies as a joke. Maybe it's not supposed to be a joke and he's just a black guy that likes yoghurt.

Peralta is like an exaggerated version of Bambi from Scrubs. He's super camp and feminine and the actor is trying way too hard. How many times are they going to mention that he likes Die Hard? If he was a real person, and we met, I would instantly hate him.

Santiago is okay, but she can be pretty annoying sometimes.

Holt and Gina are the best characters on the show, by a mile.

After Holt / Gina, comes Hitchcock and Scully... Without these four characters, I would have stopped watching years ago.

I'm going to stop watching now.
This season has been awful, so far.

The show hasn't been very good since they jumped the shark with the Miami episodes and then the jail narrative arc...
