How does someone, "only to awakens the next day"?
No, not my kind of show. I didn't care for the atmosphere and that same awful song, lol. The chain-smoking ridiculousness of the main character was so completely over the top. Do people from New York really behave that way? Do they go to crappy parties with artsy, fartsy people? What a $hit $how. It's supposed to be a comedy but I never laughed. Not. One. Time.
Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, you guys suck and so does your show.… Expand

What's so funnyThis is just the stupidest thing I have ever seen, omg. This tells me that the masses will watch whatever is thrown at them. What's so funny about it is that the judges seem to be so into it and of course they would be because they're getting paid monster salaries. Yeah, this is just terrible television and the money could have been better spent elsewhere.… Expand

First of all, this was very slow going. It seems that an ensemble piece has to have its cliches, and this series is no different. There were so many flashbacks. Each primary character had their flashback episode to fill us as to why they were there, on the ship in space. The episodes were repeats of shows we've seen before and although production values appear to be solid, the story just drags. I think the dragging feeling this show gives off is because the flashbacks are long, and they are often.
I made the effort to like it but it was very boring and nothing could make me want to come back for more. I did make it through two episodes and am not going to be watching the rest of this series. I think if you don't mind the same old, same old, then you might enjoy this one. I don't have the heart to recommend it to anyone.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.1Nov 10, 2018This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This could have been better. The acting was good and the production values were outstanding except for that blurring thing they did around the edges, wtf was that all about? The story-line was pretty lame and it still has no idea where it's going. Another thing that bothered me was that most of the characters seemed cliche. It didn't make any sense that in the beginning of the series, satan could see and hear everything but then later on, he was not as involved as he had been.
A few things that ticked me right off; Susie the bullied friend that dresses like a boy. I'm fine with her dressing like a boy and it's fine that her aunt from back in the day used to dress like a boy but if it's not part of the story then for crying out loud, drop it. Roz, the outspoken friend who is going blind. For god's sake, why the tears about books that have been banned? Don't be a tool. Buy them and read them at home. Ambrose the gay cousin under house arrest, but finds a lover at a funeral, really? There was more but you get my point.
The writing is pretty bad. The aunts, have moments of good dialogue but for the most part the writing is shallow and obtuse. For someone who supposedly has amazing critical thinking skills, Sabrina gets tricked.
So, yeah, not impressed with any of it and will not return to watch season 2.… Expand

After receiving a call from a friends daughter, Harry goes back to his hometown to help investigate a double homicide. It started out with lots of promise, but ended up with so many holes that the end result was unbelievable. There were at least 6 different things that weren't explained and it was as though the writer/director/producer put these things in there to confuse anyone watching.
By the end, this series seemed like one of those books with an unreliable narrator. From the 3rd episode on, you can't believe what the film maker is leading you to believe. I don't want to recommend it because the ending was such a letdown. It gets a 4 out of 10 for acting and for production values.… Expand

Amy was a kidThis series was a waste of time. The acting was okay the production values were the only thing that allowed me to rate it a 3. Amy was a kid that should have grown up but she didn't. Instead they had a grown woman play her all the way through. I also thought that many of the things that made the girls different were not emphasized enough. They all seemed to be the same person with no real differences at all. Most of the important events were not well expressed or were omitted entirely. So yes, this series was a complete fail and I do not recommend it.… Expand
Average User Score: 8.0Feb 4, 2018I enjoyed this series but I did not read the book that the show is based on. I must admit that it was difficult going for the first threeI enjoyed this series but I did not read the book that the show is based on. I must admit that it was difficult going for the first three episodes because there were certain things that were not revealed until episode 4 and then other things that were better explained in episode 7. I do not want to spoil it for you, please watch and be patient. I thought the casting choice for Kristin Ortega was a miss. I didn't like the character at all and by episode 4, I understood her better but as an actress she's not very good. I thought Miriam Bancroft looked exactly like Courtney Love (kinda gross, I know). Miriam is played by Kristin Lehman and she did an okay job. There were a few characters that were outstanding; Matt Biedel was amazing as was Chris Conner. Joel Kinnaman and James Purefoy carried their characters quite nicely. Hayley Law was an excellent choice to play Lizzie Elliot. I enjoyed Waleed Zuaiter's performance and Dichen Lachmen was so good as Reileen Kawahara . There were many others that stood out but this is just off the top of my head. The special effects were very well done and I recognized a few places from around here in Vancouver, BC. A few things to know... There is nudity and some sex. It's not crazy over the top sex, but it is there. There is blood and violence as well so be prepared. The ending was well done and they could do another series if they wanted but this story wrapped up very well indeed. I gave it an 8 out of 10 because of the strength of the acting was not always evident and I feel like they cheaped-out on the music.… Expand
Average User Score: 7.5Nov 4, 2017I have just finished this series and I was hoping for more, or rather, I wanted it to be better. The story is nothing you haven't seen beforeI have just finished this series and I was hoping for more, or rather, I wanted it to be better. The story is nothing you haven't seen before so there are no surprises. You see everything coming and you know, or at least have an idea of what's coming next as far as the story goes.
The acting is fine although I thought that Harry Treadaway did an outstanding job as Brady Hartsfield, and Brendan Gleeson was very good as Bill Hodges. In fact there were so many amazing actors, I wondered why it wasn't better. Right, the script. Actors can only do what they can with the script they are given [heavy sigh].
This is a slow moving series and to be perfectly honest it could have been done in six-episodes rather than the 10-episodes we were given. The music was excellent and got to hear stuff I haven't heard in a long time. In fact, I can say that the music helped with the lousy editing and camera-work.

I like the cast and was especially looking forward to seeing Anna Torv in her role as a psychologist. To me it seemed like Jonathan Groff was an odd choice for this particular lead as Holden Ford, but he's done well and his character comes across as sympathetic and kind, as well as a bit naive. I am especially enjoying Holt McCallany in his role as agent/teacher. Cameron Britton is outstanding as Ed Kemper, the co-ed killer.
The story is unwinding at a slow enough pace. It's not all cops and killers, as there's more happening on the sidelines. We get to know more about Holden, the way he thinks, and what he's up against.
There's nakedness and sex in this show. It's not a problem though, you can always fast forward through the bits you don't like. You also get to see more than a few gory pictures and scenes of violence. There's cussing as well but I wasn't bothered by it.
In all it's a solid 7 and if it turns bad, I'll come back and edit...

I was disappointed that there was no chemistry between Acker and Moyer but I set that aside hoping by episode 2 things would improve. They didn't.
The acting on the whole is fine and everyone is either lovely to look at or they are part monster. I am reminded of Heroes, only this series is not as slick as Heroes. The story is predictable and before the end of episode 2, I had decided that I would not be spending anymore time with this series. I want something clever and new.
