Showrunners Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland have perfectly reimagined Ryan for modern audiences. They certainly couldn’t have found a better actor to play him.

Expertly plotted by creators Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is all the more impactful for its restraint and scope, offering excellent character-based drama that’s concerned with much more than just its namesake.

The Jack Ryan name will cut through the clutter and polished production values and the solid Krasinski should help viewers choose this Oreo, even if it's only sometimes appreciably better than the store-brand sandwich cookie.

Despite paying cursory service to humanizing its principal characters, Jack Ryan is mostly interested in a battle between broad notions of good and evil. It thrives on the tension of Jack's chess match with bin Suleiman, reducing an entire nation's efforts to combat terror to a personal beef between two archetypes.

Until Jack Ryan finds a way to make its drama as compelling as its action scenes, it’ll go down as a mission not quite accomplished.

It’s just odd to realize mid-way through that a show featuring this many explosions and gratuitous, all-too-familiar terrorist attacks can also be this boring. ... Krasinski lends an un-earned charisma to the character through sheer presence alone, but the nature of the character itself forces him into the background of most situations looking like he’d much, much rather be playing Minesweeper.

I really liked this version of Jack Ryan but unfortunately the Liberals are going to hate it because it may hurt someone's feelings. One of them even says "all the Muslim males are terrorists" Did you even watch the series? Jack Ryan's boss is one of the good guys and he's a f*cking MUSLIM!
The series is good, extremely bingeable and truly entertaining. It is well paced, interesting and balanced (you actually get to see some of the story behind the "bad guys"). It is well produced and it keeps you entertained, it may not be game changing, but what more do you need for the weekend?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must admit i have been pleasantly surprised by the serie . Krasinsky is beleivable in the role, Pierce steal the attention every time he shows up but he is a bit too similar to his role of Zane in suit . Cornished deserved a better character development. She had massive potential but despite a predictable plot and a few "stupid" plot holes (spoiler : being under CA protective custody and having access to internet , or entering the country while your face is on tv 24h/7 as ennemy number 1, ...o-0 ) i really appreciated that they did the effort to "humanise " the bad guys (drones pilots//terrorists) . Apply the same traumas and you can relate to their motivations or at least understand where they are coming from . Obviously as it s an american show there is a bit of propaganda to over look (we are the best and blah bla blah) but over all it was an enjoyable experience. Easy watch Expand

Great cast deliver excellent performances. The Locations are interesting and the overall premise is worthy of the title.

Sadly this show fails to deliver the quality setup from previous outings. Lackluster cinematography and action scene choreography betray the prevalent budget with the script failing to meet the detail of the scenarios being dealt with.

Despite this I will say I had fun watching and will prob check out S2!

I came into this show thinking it would be a more action-packed version of Homeland or at least a small screen version of the Harrison FordI came into this show thinking it would be a more action-packed version of Homeland or at least a small screen version of the Harrison Ford version of the character from the 90s, but instead, its this era and generation's version of 24. Whereas 24 embraced the campy, 80s action movie style, this show pretends that it's smarter than it is, but it isn't. It tries to take the kind of fantasy peddled by Mission: Impossible and James Bond movies and lay it over serious, real-world issues that deserve deeper examination and ass-kicking, but it doesn't at the end of the day. At least John Krasinski does a good job shedding his image from The Office into a gritty action hero, but it isn't his fault that the plot and writing are dumb.

If this show wants to want to be "Let’s just blow sh*t up, shoot some bad guys and have him go home and romance the pretty doc. Action 101, baby!” then embrace it, be good and not too serious about it, and drop the pretenses of it wanting to be deep and complex, or stylish like a Bond flick in order to win over the critics. It's not how Jack Ryan novels are supposed to be, but this show is like that.

I like John Krasinski and I really like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel so I wanted to like this show as well. But it is bad. It is filled to the brim with cliches. Krasinski is not convincing in the role. The Jack Ryan is a shallow character. The outcomes are predictable. He is incredibly annoying in his self-righteous morals, and I get that the show pointed it out in the first episode but it doesn't give any real insight into his stubborn irrationality and there aren't any real consequences any way. Really not quite a 0 but honestly, the writing is really poor.

It says something about a show when the best scene is when John Krasinski almost gets into a brawl with a restaurant manager/owner

The things the terrorists do in the show are really silly and unbelievable.

Not to mention that the CIA's actions make no sense either

Also, the sound is poorly mixed, the closed captions interfere with the translations

I'd take the worst season of homeland over this crap in a heartbeat
