Puff doesn’t grab your attention directly. Rather, it occupies your subconscious, leaving vestiges of melodies and lyrics behind that lie dormant for stretches of time, resurfacing intermittently and maddeningly.

The album is a delightful access point to the cloudy emotional zones Bernice have always occupied, from a warm place of Snuggie-bound safety.

There is something innate about Bernice's music, full of Dann's knack for honesty, observation, and language that reflects on the natural beauty around us. It is a joy to hear Bernice's musical identity coalesce.

By the end, it's easy to wish there were more of it, though that may be as much a signal as anything that its seven tracks are just enough. Puff LP is lovely.

Puff may sound as slight as its name suggests--but this idiosyncratic and inventive record is anything but lightweight.

Remarkably short, this LP is a compact return to form for Bernice. It might not reach many new listeners, but it certainly is a record of exquisite singularity. In an age where pop music is played loud, fast, and catchy-as-hell, Bernice is actively moving in the opposite direction.
