TowerFall is not to be overlooked. It offers up some of the best competitive and co-op action the Switch has ever seen, even next to Smash! [Issue #37 – January/February 2019, p. 25]

TowerFall is an outrageously incredible local multiplayer game, quite possibly one of my favorites of all time. Smash Bros. might draw attention away from TowerFall when it launches, but I’m reminded of how when Super Smash Bros. for Wii U came out, I had a group of friends over and we wound up playing more TowerFall than Smash. In the ever-expanding sea of local multiplayer games on Switch, TowerFall stands out, thanks to its intuitive and fun gameplay, excellent style and presentation, and variety of play.

Boot up TowerFall, and the ultra-intense matches will be an instant hit with your friends. Before you know it, it’ll be two in the morning and still nearly impossible to set the controller down. If you indulge in local multiplayer at all, this is one of the best games that your money can buy, indie or otherwise. TowerFall has always been an all-time great local multiplayer title–that has not changed on Switch.

Towerfall sets the standard for excellence in local multiplayer, creating a fun and endlessly replayable experience that’s sure to be a blast every time you play. Although the single-player content is a bit thinner than we’d like and the omission of online may be disappointing to some, we’d argue that there are few games that better exemplify the unique multiplayer strengths of the Switch. We’d give Towerfall a high recommendation to anyone looking for a great party game for their Switch; the easy to understand mechanics and near-bottomless depth will ensure that this one will be a house favorite for years to come.

A games that it's as fun as it was on Ouya, but is even bigger. One of the most enjoyable couch coop games on Switch.

Such a good fun multiplayer game. If only it had online multiplayer it would score a 10. As it stands I can only award it a 9, however, thisSuch a good fun multiplayer game. If only it had online multiplayer it would score a 10. As it stands I can only award it a 9, however, this is one of those games which clearly demonstrates that graphics are only polish and that heart and soul comes from great mechanics. Well done developer! Full Review »

The ultimate competitive party game, with no exception. Nothing has ever held a candle to this for me.

I'm a huge fan of Towerfall Ascension, but I never got to play it the way it was meant to be played (with four players) very often, since I wasn't willing to buy four controllers compatible with my Mac just in case I happened to run into three other people who want to play with me, which is a shame. So I was ecstatic to learn this was coming to the Switch, a system that I already own three controllers for, on top of the fact that I recently bought a GameCube controller to Switch adapter for the upcoming Smash bros, and the GC controllers happen to work perfectly with this game. And to top off my excitement, the Switch also exclusively comes with six player matches.

Anyways, other than the fact that the Switch version comes with the DLC, six player matches, and Madeline from Celeste is included as an archer, everything is exactly the same. B jumps, Y shoots, triggers dodge, all players scramble murder as many other players as they can at the start of each match. It is intense, insane, accessible, hyper competitive fun.
