Immersive, involving, disturbing but also beautiful, Smoke and Sacrifice puts the player in a world where RPG and survival horror elements come into play in an effort that will allow the exploration of an immense world and which will keep players mired in its adventure for long, enjoyable hours.

Smoke and Sacrifice is like a fine cigar, a slow burn from start to finish. It can be very challenging at times, but the reward is worth it once you complete a quest that seems impossible. The intricate crafting and compelling story only compliments the beautiful art direction. Smoke and Sacrifice is a single game that beckons to becomes a series.

Smoke and Sacrifice get a lot of the things we love about this genre right, with the added bonus of playing a protagonist with clear goals and motivations. It also teaches players a lesson with every death. While there are save points, they are far and few between, so ensuring that you choose your battles wisely will also help you on your journey. With beautiful visuals and a thematic ambient soundtrack, Smoke and Sacrifice is a brilliant game you should check out.

Smoke and Sacrifice is a game that's worth your time and money. There's a lot of game here, and a lot of replayability, though the narrative loses its surprises after the first run. At the budget price of $25 USD, it's hard not to say yes to Smoke and Sacrifice. Some better choices could have been made with the UI and the save system, but overall SnS is just as good a survival RPG as Don't Starve, with a far more serious tone and story.

Smoke and Sacrifice has a narrative that keep the player curious from beginning to end. The graphics and soundtrack blend together in a memorable way. Featuring a very intuitive crafting system and a simple combat system. Overall, it's a great game for those who like the genre, but for new players it might be ignored.

A sometimes grotesque, always engrossing take on the survival game, woven together with a twisted tale, weird weapons, and giant, charging porcupine pigs.

A dark and twisted fantasy RPG which uses elements of survival games to great effect, Smoke and Sacrifice is a beautiful piece of indie software. Tonally and physically challenging, the artistry on display sets it apart from its peers, creating a foreboding world that’s well worth being drawn into.

Survival games were in need of a shakeup and Smoke and Sacrifice appears to be the game to do it. More than just a title of crafting and cooking, you’ll find yourself rooting for Sachi while still appreciating the satisfaction that can come from a battle for survival. This is a game that’s brimming with heart and emotion.

Smoke and Sacrifice tells a dark and painful story that will immerse us in its world instantly. Its management system is well designed and we were surprised by its high difficulty and its lugubrious but beautiful artistic section.

Smoke and Sacrifice is an ambitious survival, but not enough. The chance to stand out with the adoption of a fascinating story is wasted in the repetitive quests that will lead us to the ending. Solar Sail production manages to propose astounding visuals, but fails in trying to entertain us with shallow survival mechanics and a disappointing combat system.

The title is, in fact, a more than discrete but a little too simple survival that, unfortunately, stumbles on a decidedly elementary control system and on a basic repetitiveness in the crafting and exploratory mechanics that, in the long run, can bore.

Smoke and Sacrifice is yet another worthy entry in the survival genre. While it isn’t the best one, it certainly has a lot going for it and is a still a cracking little title. It has an impressive overarching story which is rare in the genre. Finding new things to make and gathering items is incredibly fun and addictive. The combat system will be a little simple for some and it does have its share of problems, such as an overly finicky inventory menu. But if you are able to see past this you will find a title which has plenty to offer and plenty to enjoy.

If you enjoyed or enjoy games like Don’t Starve and want something like that with a great art style, Smoke and Sacrifice is for you. There’s always a sense of mystery that is nice and the mix of different mechanics works well. The world always seems huge and the game isn’t a short experience. If you’re willing to overlook some of these flaws like the UI problems, you will find a lot to love here. I can’t wait to see this improve over time.

Smoke and Sacrifice is a discreetly crafted survival-game, absolutely canonical in gameplay, enhanced by an intriguing storyline.

Smoke and Sacrifice is an attractive take on the survival genre with a diverting story examining our reliance on fossil fuels and class-dependent economies. Juggling your gear is more finicky than it should be, which is disappointing when inventory management is such a fundamental part of the game. However, if you’re prepared to keep on top of things, and you have the fortitude to brave the oppressive smoke, there’s plenty to enjoy in Sachi’s quest and the core crafting loop.

Despite some of the aggravations, Smoke and Sacrifice is a fascinating entry into the Switch lineup, and is worth a look for players pining for a crafting-based action RPG on that system.

Smoke And Sacrifice is by no means terrible, but while its asking price may be lower than other known RPGs and its story is at its core interesting, its gameplay can at times also be just as fundamentally lacking.

Given that Smoke and Sacrifice's end point truly feels like it means something, it's heartbreaking that many will get stuck riding its mundane merry-go-rounds. [Aug 2018, p.110]

Smoke and Sacrifice takes the gameplay loop of survival games and adds meaning with a poignant narrative. It presents a unique and oppressive world to be explored and exploited, but a repetitive and busywork crafting system strips part of the fun.

The characters you meet are entertaining and visually gorgeous, with each having distinct personalities and all feel like a cohesive part of the world. The slow pace and vague directions to progress, however, make the story hard to experience in a satisfying manner. If you’re willing to overlook some tough gameplay elements, Smoke and Sacrifice’s heart beats strong with a gripping and enthralling story. Be warned, though, the barrier to entry could be a potential turnoff.

There are some nice ideas here, but in the end there just isn't enough peril.

It’s a shame that such lovely art is paired with monotonous environments, a rudimentary story, and subpar combat and crafting elements. My advice? Smoke something else.
