The lack of licences for top-tier leagues remains a disheartening sticking point, but PES continues to make brilliant strides on the pitch, building on what was already an incredibly satisfying game of football to produce one of the greatest playing football games of all time. It might be lacking off the pitch, but put it on the field against the competition and a famous giant killing wouldn't be all that surprising.

On the pitch PES 2019 it really is the beautiful game. But it needs some serious improvements in the game modes and online options.

To make up for the lack of a prestigious UEFA license, as well as the presence of some exclusive partnerships, the development team decided to focus entirely on the evolution of the gameplay's strong points: pad in hand, PES 2019 gives a feeling of great realism, which is expressed both in animations and in the management of the ball derived from the First Touch Impact system and the miracles performed by the combination of the Fox Engine and Enlighten.

I love the way PES 2019 plays. The gameplay is the biggest selling point, but not the only thing that matters–especially in the face of formidable competition. Konami can't escape the negative effect of losing the licensing battle, its shallow modes, and bland presentation...Those things keep a good game from being great.

PES 2019 is great at really understanding soccer and making it feel like a real game. The controls are tight, the unpredictability is amazing and it feels like a very solid experience. The only thing that is bothering us are the other players and referees.

Even if the developers made great strides from 2018, they still don’t have enough time to fix all of the existing problems. And that’s too bad because, above all else, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 is really fun to play. If you can ignore some of the minor issues I laid out, I’m sure that any football fan will be more than happy to give it a go.

The most important aspects - how it looks and the feel of play - are top-drawer, but this only makes the surrounding drabness even more disappointing, and ensures that PES will remain the preferred choice of contrarians only.

After a promotion from Championship the first season and two top 5 Premier League finishes, I can say I've had fun playing about 5% of the matches. Why do I keep playing, you ask? Well, I'm probably an idiot and an addict and I keep hoping it will get better. I skipped the 2018 year altogether, but have been an 80% PES / 20% FIFA player for the past 15 years or so, with PES2017 being my last one. Until this one, I've never really fell like I fell into a rut, but it genuinely feels like there's only one reliable way to score, with a bunch of quick short passes in front of goal followed by a one-touch into the net. In PES2017, I would take corners and at least get contact on what felt like half of them. With PES2019, I don't recall getting contact on more than a single one (probably a fluke), so I end up taking them short and doing the aforementioned rut passing. Same with free kicks. Almost no point. I still try every now and then and the keeper barely has to try. So it's again, back to the high percentage attack. So I eke out a goal and then park the bus. If you like watching Mourinho in year two or three of a contract, you'd love watching me play.. OTHER NOTES: I only play Master League. I don't care about the generic kits, because I'd rather they spend that money on their developers/designers and then spend 10 minutes downloading kits and Cup logos. Would be neat to have an American League with some faux MLS teams #SaveTheCrew. I don't mind this year's menus. Negotiations and budgets are much better than 2017. Players seem to develop slower. In my 3 seasons, only 1 player has underwent the "Rapidly developing" metamorphosis to turn into a beautiful butterfly, where in PES2017 I was usually juggling 2 or 3 going through the change at a time. CONCLUSION: I'm not having a lot of fun, but I'll keep playing and hoping it gets better. When I really start to regret my decision, I watch some FIFA on Twitch, and I'm glad I got PES this year. Every single year I buy bothThis is a better version of PES 2018 but nowhere near Fifa. Juts to let you know, I live and breath football. Every single year I buy both Fifa and PES. What shall I say? I will start with the positives. Improved passing, better looking overall. Nothing else! The game is heavily scripted! Players don't do the correct runs. AI teams play like GOD even if you play against the worst team in the game. Every 1st shot on target is a goal. Goals are 99% the same, low cross/pass from the side that goes through 2-3 defenders that just stand. Headers are bad. When you try to shoot/curve the ball the player animation stops the player run and it looks BAD. AI defenders are ALWAYS FASTER. Even if your player has 99 Speed and the defender 10. He will outrun you. Master League? Nothing changed! Childish transfer system. Player ratings waaaaaaaaaaay of. Terrible/unknown players are highly over rated. And I hate to see retired players returning to the game like 16 year olds! WTF! I can keep going on and on and on on how bad this is. Don't get me wrong. It's better than last years PES but still it lucks character. It's a better looking game but still it's not the PES it used to be many years ago. Expand

FIFA is much much better than this pile of garbage. First of all never listen to the PES community because is just a bunch of blind fanboys,FIFA is much much better than this pile of garbage. First of all never listen to the PES community because is just a bunch of blind fanboys, they keep saying Konami gives us a real football experience while the EA game is just for casual players, absolute false and laughable. Robotic movements, you don't have the feeling of controlling the players at 360 grades; terrible atmosphere, horrendous IA, referees and GKs, Master League loses at FIFA 04's career mode, the online is frustrating as hell because of lags and no skills required, lack of licenses etc. PES 19 worth 0 euro, maybe would be a decent mobile football game for that price.
