A stunning return to form for the annual football franchise – and one of the finest all-round Madden packages in years.

This year’s mastery of the Frostbite engine offers an impressive visual experience with players represented close to reality. Visually and audibly its a success. At the same time, improvements in important game modes, Franchise and Ultimate Team, guarantee weeks of fun that will be driven by the start of the regular season and endless interaction with the community. Madden NFL 19 is a satisfying experience, one of the best entries in years. But is it like winning a game with a Hail Mary pass? Not yet, but it's close to happening.

You’re right to be sceptical of EA Sports’ buzzwords by now, but Madden NFL 19’s headline Real Player Motion really does result in a more fluid game of football. The presentation may be familiar, but the game feels great on the field, and that consequently enhances all of its headline modes. Longshot: Homecoming may be short, but Tiburon’s teen drama is well-presented and well written, while Franchise mode includes some oft-requested features, like draft classes. Ultimate Team, meanwhile, continues to be a grind – but it’s an addictive one that’s made all the more compulsive by the roster of gameplay improvements made elsewhere.

While the new foundational changes are awesome and it’s more fun than ever to play Madden, it almost feels like it isn’t enough in comparison. It especially stings that the Longshot sequel feels so unsure of itself, despite its high production values. It’s easy enough to recommend Madden 19 to sports fans, but if I’m trying to get someone new started, it feels like last year’s game is required reading to get the most out of this year’s entry.

Another step forward, even if it isn't exactly a big one. Real Player Motion and a couple of other subtle improvements ultimately outweigh the dragging Longshot mode and some strange happenings on and off the pitch.

The attention paid to solo players in MUT and some Franchise improvements are certainly noticeable and deserve credit. However, when the game is littered with a multitude of glitches, a weak story mode and no other big notable changes, it makes Madden’s price tag more difficult to justify.

Haters are already hating, but that always happens. The addition of the following positions with their own unique ratings has really improved the experience: power halfback, slot wide receiver, rush left end, rush right end, rush defensive tackle, sub package linebacker and one or two others that I can’t think of at the moment. The graphics and player animations are completely overhauled. Strategy is upgraded. If you like football, and you aren’t a negative Nancy, buy this game. Expand

So this year I decided to get Madden as I was in the football spirit to do so. I started franchise mode and noticed some things had changed. For instance in the background of the menus you can see your coach developing a game plan which is kind of cool to see. Also during franchise mode offseason draft I noticed that it had changed too. It showed the actual podium, the crowd, etc which was a lot better than what they had in past years. I wish they would've actually put someone at the podium announcing the picks because there is no one there lol. Also the ability to edit players names, face, etc is nice too. When it comes to the actual gameplay that is where it becomes tricky at least for me because EA has implemented the real player motion. This is different from what im used too as I am used to pressing the sprint trigger when I hand the ball off, but not here as you have to know when and when not to use the sprint trigger as it will effect your jukes, spins etc. The halftime show is a little better, but also very boring as I don't want to just see numbers I want to see highlights of my game and other games. In real life when have you ever seen during a halftime show they just show numbers and not highlights? NEVER!!. It's kind of frustrating that EA can't get the halftime show right. Automatic replays in the game are crappy especially the challenged plays as you can't really see if the player got his feet in bounds or not because the camera is just doing what it wants. I just feel like the in game experience is lacking in presentation not so much the graphics, but more so to the halftime show and just making it feel like a complete football experience. Like why not add on the field player interviews, or locker room interactions, or reporters on the field updating you about injuries or general things going on down on the field, or sideline interactions. Or how about in franchise mode instead of reading countless of tweets and articles why not have an actual reporter report what is going on around the league. I know this is probably a long shot, but how about putting Mic'd up in the game. The commentary is really good for the most part. I had a CPU kicker miss a field goal and he celebrated, yes you read that right. Eventually within a couple games my punter was a QB. I had all my 3 qb's go down with injuries. So with all of this being said I can see why madden players have given this game a 2.4 on this site as they are frustrated with how EA is approaching madden every year. We are on madden 19 and EA still cannot give us an immersive football game and the fact that gamespot and IGN are giving this game an 8/10 is beyond me, this game is decent, not great. EA needs to really overhaul this game in order to make it great and hopefully they can get it right next year, but...…….I highly doubt it. Expand

Still, on screens the lineman do not block and simply run right past defenders and the QB release time is so slow its insane. The QB throws the ball horribly on the 10 yard hitch, if you dont throw it perfetly, the ball flies way over instead of underneath. To be honest madden 19 isnt very great and im a huge fan but it makes me not even wanna play because its still **** up. Expand
