Far Cry 5 is hands down the best yet for the series, and may be the best Ubisoft title ever.

Far Cry 5 is the best Far Cry to date. The great additions and refinements made to the franchise are fantastic. Along with the inclusion of Far Cry Arcade, which extends your play time, Far Cry 5 is the ultimate open-world first person shooter.

I've always enjoyed playing Far Cry games, but Far Cry 5 is probably my favorite. It has a few flaws and some missed opportunities, but overall it takes the Far Cry formula that's worked in the past and improves upon it. If you've never really enjoyed Far Cry games in the past, then those improvements may not be enough to change your mind about the game. However, anyone who's a Far Cry fan, or anyone who has yet to experience a Far Cry game will probably really enjoy their time in Montana.

Far Cry 5 is a massive game with tons of content and Far Cry Arcade has the potential to keep the game fresh and exciting for months to come. In the end, Far Cry 5 didn't make the most out of its rural setting and didn't innovate much on the typical Far Cry gameplay formula although it still ranks as one of the best games in the series.

Off the beaten track, Far Cry 5 is strongly reminiscent of its predecessors. If you have no problem with ticking off small tasks in an Open World shooter, you can blow off steam with sufficient weapons, tools and vehicles. But much more was expected from the now fifth Far Cry installment.

Neither toothless nor incendiary, Far Cry 5 does its setting justice but colours within the lines. [May 2018, p.60]

Divorce it from its narrative and Far Cry 5‘s biggest overall problem is just how little mechanical innovation separates the game from Far Cry 4.

So if you didn't like the 3 or 4, you might not like this. But if 3 and 4 was the best thing since sliced bread - this will be amazing. The premise of the game (not to spoil anything) is you against a weaponized cult, and in the process, you'll have to fight the three siblings before going head to head with the mastermind. This both gives diversity to the game and limits how well you really get to know the antagonists. Your direct contact with the antagonists is in segments before you end up with a confrontation and this is both a missed opportunity and where the game shines. They have each their own personalities and reasons for what they do, but splitting the story like that and having so few contact points with it doesn't really connect you with the story as much as you could. So it doesn't have the impact the story could have been. If they had either had a lot more contact points. Missions that relates more to the story and also missions that connect the sides of the story better would have helped. but it's not as good as it could have been. But it is a lot of missions and side missions, so for a completionist, as me, it was no problem using 60 hours before I got the platinum, but you sure can do it in a shorter time if you are in a rush. And the arcade mode gives an almost endless entertainment value for people like me that loves the game mechanics. Multiplayer is fanatic but once you get a hang of it, it's a lot of fun. Perfect for short bursts of gaming but I'd prefer if they had an open multiplayer mode in the game itself - you can have friends join the game but well. As an adult, I don't have that many that take time for gaming and like the games I like.

The game mechanics are improved from earlier games. Driving cars is about the same, it's pretty solid and arcade-ish. Felt I couldn't take as wild jumps (get easier hurt by the landing) but that's not a problem. But what's new is that instead of the single one man chopper from far cry 4 - you got seaplanes, faster spitfire-type planes and a number of choppers and everything from atv to semi trucks to jet boats to gunboats. You either get them from garages or find them in the wild, so there are always easy ways to get around. You have the classic far cry bow and a number of other weapons. You got a number of perks to unlock, but few are critical for the gameplay so it's quick to get into and feel like you have control. Money is not that plenty as previous games unless you do a certain type of mission, but I had unlocked most by the end of the game. Could be less when playing hard as I did.

Anyhow, it's not a perfect game but for someone who likes the far cry experience, it's a must-have. It's better than the previous ones but without as strong story telling as far cry 3.

I preordered this game and i had so much fun in johns and faiths region. Jacobs region felt empty and rather boring when compared to the 2 other regions. I was worried that far cry 5 would be a lazy reskin of far cry 4, but its not. So those saying this is a reskin of previous far cry titles, don't listen to them because they are being extremely disingenuous. This game has many new features that previous far cry games did not have. FC5 both expands upon good features and scraps bad features from previous FC games. The story doesn't make sense in the setting its presented in because this whole scenario would never happen in America. Previous FC games had settings that made sense. FC3 was set in a lone island and FC4 was set in the some remote country. FC5 is set in a county in Montana in the U.S. So right away, the story is off to a bad start, but its a fictional setting in a video game so i guess you can give it points for being cheesy. The weapon variety is not varried at all really. I hope that new community events will lead to more weapons being added like the vector was. If more weapons are added like that, then the game will be better off long term. Overall though, FC5 feels both refreshing and very familiar. Although, in the age of almost every video game being an open world title, i suppose its hard to make your open world game very different and unique. All in all, I've had a lot of fun playing FC5, but i don't see myself or my friend that i played the whole game cooperatively with, going through a second playthrough. I know people will both agree and disagree with my assessment of the game, but thats what metacritic is for. Expand

So not expecting a game of the year, butFar Cry has never been my favorite series, but always good enough for a couple dozen hours of play. So not expecting a game of the year, but still disappointed Ubi dropped the ball on some big things

    Pros:
    Beautiful looking game
Most sound effects and the addition of an echo

    Cons:
Feels like the least amount of destructible-environment I have seen since FC2
You can't shoot TVs or even turn radios off
The music matched the them, but just the Pause menu music got so annoying, I switched Music to Off
    Glitchy game right now 3/31/18
I hear and see a vehicle of enemies pulling up towards me, and will randomly disappear entirely
I have gotten stuck several times acending a wall with the grappling hook
The amount of times NPCs have you locked into a conversation when you are getting a radio call from someone, or bad guys are shooting you, or the most recent for me; getting bit by a rattlesnake. I suppose it makes it more realistic, but meh
Stores in-game seem to all want to connect to Ubisoft online or something, because they take forever to load up and sometimes get stuck
The loading times suck in this game. Yeah, it's huge and graphical, but so was Wildlands, and I feel strong those loading times were slightly less
Crafting is almost completely gone. You can craft a few explosive devices, and that's it I believe. And you pick those up all the time anyway. This makes looting and hunting almost obsolete, as money comes by better with just side and main missions.
Gun variety seems to have taken a step back from FC4. I suspect Ubi is gonna try and push micro transactions heavily on guns and vehicles.
Blow up cars or helicopters just kind of hang around as a blackened version of itself, never splitting into pieces or blowing up entirely
The game wasn't hard, but I decided to drop the difficulty level from Hard to Normal just because of how frequently bad guys pop-up EVERYWHERE. Can't get a 30 sec reprieve without them lining up.
This makes stealth play pretty useless, with how easy it is to get caupght. I had a silenced sniper that works sometimes, but try to shoot a lone sniper on a tall barn roof? Everyone around goes on alert. Needs tweaking.

    Par:
Story - Bad guys are okay with decent voice acting. Better than Wildlands, and they can't keep trying to replicate Vaas, so that's fine
Driving is done a good bit on dirt roads, so can be a bit of a pain to make quick escapes and turns, but adds to the realism
They abandoned giving your character a voice, like Ubi finally realized their usual main characters are so darn cookie-cutter, that they couldn't figure anything out better than silence
Create a character is something I always love, but this round is so useless as a pure FPS, and the options seem even more cash grabby than WIldlands

In the end, I found myself wishing some of the game was more like Dying Light, as this game is a par Far Cry game, but took some shuffles back on some of the most important aspects of what makes a game a Far Cry game for me.
