It is mechanics that glue Black Ops 4 together, then, rather than any particular theme, which helps each component drill down into what its good at. The competitive multiplayer can afford to be break-neck at all times, because you can happily nick off and play the more languid, tense and tactical Blackout.

Black Ops 4 takes multiple ideas from other modern shooters today which breathes new life into the series making it an ideal multi-player First Person Shooter that presents something special to its fans despite their diverse preferences.

Black Ops 4 is easily the best Call Of Duty has been in years. The game plays almost flawlessly, and despite it not having a single player campaign still offers lots of content including the new Battle Royale mode Blackout. The only thing keeping Black Ops 4 from a perfect score is that the multiplayer maps, while being well designed lack originality and rely too heavily on remaking the past. If you haven’t played Call Of Duty for a while, Black Ops 4 gives you plenty of reasons to return.

We are missing its campaign, but our tears will be wiped by the excellent Blackout mode or its expanded multiplayer or coop options. A great Call of Duty if you are one of those that weren't into its single player campaign.

Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.

Black Ops 4 is one of the best Call of Duty games to date. The multiplayer and the Zombies experiences are excellent, but Blackout needs more personality and a different economic model to try to steal Fortnite and PUBG players.

It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

I didn’t think they were able to pull it off but black ops 4 proves that cod can still provide the action and gritty war game that fans want. Blackout is on a whole new level and great addition to the game multiplayer comes back and is still great, and the zombies is fun and challenging like we’ve never seen before. I can’t say this is the best cod game to come out recently but that doesn’t mean anything to the fact that it is great!! Expand

In pretty much every review at 0 or 1 that I see, there is a common theme among them that shouldn't be. "Battle Royal is a ripoff of _____" or "There is no campaign!!!". To those people I say, sorry you didn't research the game prior to buying. If you discount every one of those reviews it would raise the overall user score of this game tremendously, as it deserves.

Now onto my personal review of the game. It's great! I feel like Call of Duty is finally (getting) back to its roots. Sure it is still based in the future a bit but not like other COD games we have seen. No more exo-skeleton, no more wall running, no more flying or double jumping. We are finally back to boots on the ground action and grit.

Again, we are (getting) back to what the COD franchise used to be and it feels so good! Multiplayer is solid and so far I haven't had any issues.

If you are looking for a Call of Duty that brings you back home and makes you feel good about the game again, pick this one up. I have owned practically every one of them up to this one and can finally say that this game is getting back to its roots as it should.

Again, don't like Battle Royal and want a campaign? Don't buy the game, simple as that. But leaving a review for a game that you did no research on and then purchased and hated, I have no sympathy for you.

It looks to me like all the people who love the game are too busy playing it. I am giving it a 9. I have every COD and Battlefield ever made as well dozens of games ranging from CS:GO, ARMA, Titanfall , etc. I am more of a purist and prefer Modern Warfare Remastered than these newer COD's, but it is easy to see why they have gone the fast, high action, "specialist" route. It's fun and accessible. Blackout is a whole new leap forward in Battle Royale games and is just excellent. It's smooth, fast, loaded with hidden items, and looks to be open ended for special events. There's nothing quite like picking up a Paladin sniping rifle in a map that size. Every game has issues. COD devs seemingly still need to put in a max lag compensation threshold, for example. A lot of the multiplayer maps are remakes. Still, it's an all around great experience. The Firing Range map is as good as classic Nuketown. In a world where people pay 25 bucks for a single pizza delivery or 15 for 1 person at a movie, I see no problem with a $100-ish game package. I wish I could have gotten the mystery - super box edition. I feel like the netcode runs better on PS4, as I also have it on XBox. Expand

The Battle Royale mode does notThe removal of a single-player campaign is indicative of a company that follows the money (and the trends). The Battle Royale mode does not offer the same level of risk/reward that PUBG does. In fact, the devs of PUBG took lengths to create a balanced game by removing "luck-based" items from normal gameplay. More often than not in BLOPS4, the winner of a Royale game comes down to "is their armor better than yours" I even recorded a gameclip of someone coming up a ladder in level 3 armor, me draining every round from my LMG into them, still shooting them as they got up to my level, and then they turn around and kill me in a few hits (apparently no lag detected). The lack of tactical options (ie not being able to switch firing modes, no leaning, etc) also makes this a subpar Royale offering. The attachments were also underwhelming except for what level of zoom you were using for a scope. The entire experience obviously feels more like COD than a Royale game. However, it does offer a much more enjoyable Royale experience for someone who wants to play a few games by themselves.

On an Xbox One X with a new 55" 4K TV and HDR, the graphics were underwhelming and not much has changed. Even with the caveat that the graphics need to support 80 players in Royale, I just wasn't impressed. COD4 blew my mind, BLOPS4 just blows.

Ultimately, the price does not justify the content and the flashy new Royale doesn't have the staying power or the draw to keep me coming back time after time.

Not only did ActivisionCall of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a massive step backward for not just Call of Duty, but First person Shooters in general. Not only did Activision drop the single player, they just decided to be a trend chaser and add a Battle Royale mode that we have yet to see them put Loot Boxes in. Call of Duty games were always just a pain to talk about, but now there's just nothing to talk about with this game at all. The very heart and soul of COD has been ripped out, Temple of Doom style. There is so little content in this game that I'm shocked that the whole game is over 100 gigabytes; and it's not even on the disc, there are only 100 megabytes on it. You basically just bought the DRM on a disc and have to download the rest of the game via download patch. Expand
