A complete and utter disappointment, and not a good start for the Portkey Games label. The game fails to take player choice into account in any meaningful way, the gameplay is shallow, and its free-to-play model is designed to frustrate and bore players into buying microtransactions.

It might not go down as the best Harry Potter video game ever, but it offers some stretches of fun that you won’t find anywhere else, and the guess here is that Jam City will be dreaming up more to throw into its world for some time to come.

The visuals are okay, and the sound is great. The on-rails experience means you aren't going to get lost or confused, and always know where to go or what to do next. I like the mini-games for casting spells, making potions, and dueling since they have intuitive controls. Tough choices are going to be made, and I like that it affects the dynamic storyline. I just wish that the timers and energy system weren't the way they are, and that customization options were a bit cheaper.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts mystery could be a decent game, but its intrusive microtransactions make it difficult to recommend even to die-hard Harry Potter fans.

Too slow and based on micropayments to be really entertaining.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a dull game with a great concept, made borderline unplayable by its hyper-aggressive monetisation.

Not so much a video game as a shameful attempt to convince children to spend their parents’ money on expensive microtransactions.

Meru is perfect; She is completely flawless. As I played, I noticed that every time she looked at my character when he wasn't noticing her, IMeru is perfect; She is completely flawless. As I played, I noticed that every time she looked at my character when he wasn't noticing her, I could see her warm and happy smile. I just want to pat her head, hold her hand and stare into those tired purple eyes as I confess my undying love for her.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time she stole my heart. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several million times. I was incredulous. The game is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that Merula's utter existence is not in line with the style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Merula by the same Asuka Langley Soryu. She wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are liking Merula at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to like best girls." And she was quite right. She was not being ironic. When you love Merula you are, in fact, trained to love best girls.

And sadly, the rest of the game - while showing some promising nuances and Harry Potter-flair are far from exceptional enough to make up for this.

    Really a wasted opportunity.

One of THE worst mobile games ever made.
We all know that mobile games that are free need to use some type of monetization to survive and some of them use energy that expires and needs to refill; some of them use waiting queues before the next event; some of them use time limits to achieve the best score so you need to spend energy to get them... HP:HM DOES ALL OF THEM!!!
After the tutorial and first level ups, the game becomes a chore. If you want to win the house cup you need to select long classes and you need to refill your energy 3 TIMES to actually complete EACH class. What happens if you can't get all stars in the amount of time? The class is over and you lost the points. The energy bar is SO SMALL and every action takes so much and with a time limit makes everything horrible...
and the gameplay? It is a click on the environment type of game, but there are no points during these, the only thing that stops you is the energy bar... and you don't actually click on the environment but on a bar... tapping on bars.. that sums it.
The story had potential but there is no way that anyone will try to find out... or how long will that take... and there seems to be no endgame, no multiplayer, nothing... if it is after 7 years of hogwarts..... no thx

This is nothing but a terrible cash grab with many timers and paywalls. Merely 10minutes into the game you will hit the Devils Snare and your first 20-30minute paywall. 5mins of playing after that you will hit flying school which is a paywall lasting multiple several hour periods. In short advancing in this game would require a HUGE amount of gems. We are talking $1-2 per MINUTE of gameplay.

This is a shockingly bad cashgrab in a poorly designed game with BARELY ANY content. This can probably safely join the ranks of the worst mobile games to ever hit market. It's just sad that it uses the Harry Potter license.

Now i'm not someone who will say THINK OF THE CHILDREN, but this is just discusting.
The amount of money grabbing and just shady bull in this game is just.. wow just wow.

I can't wait to hear about the first parent losing thousands of dollars to this piece of shiet because their kid kept buying crystals without knowing wth they are doing.

Warner Brothers showing their true colors once again!
