Kirby Battle Royale is an extremely simple party game. It shouldn’t be full-priced, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
  2. Jan 26, 2018
A well done new Kirby game with a lot of good ideas, but with a lack of very important content.
  3. Nov 14, 2017
A fun and unpretentious party game.
  4. Jan 30, 2018
Kirby Battle Royale has a great premise, but squanders almost all of its potential. There is simply too little content to justify its price point and everything can be completed in just a few hours. Online is lacking, as players are limited to only playing with strangers in ranked and can only play with friends if they do so locally. Despite being one of the only Kirby games without his famous inhale ability, Kirby Battle Royale kind of sucks.

Having only one save space is absurd, especially for families with multiple gamers, but at least there’s a decent download play option for local multiplayer.

Kirby Battle Royale relies a little too much on circumstances. If you want to get the most out of it, you will need a group of friends with Nintendo 3DS systems. The local multiplayer is the best time you will have with the game, so it’s important that you experience this. On your own, the campaign will be over before you know it and so you will come to rely on online battles. You can fight against others, but only in a Ranked Battle setting, which doesn't bring me the same joy. What doesn't help is that the game didn't ran smooth at all online. Kirby Battle Royale bums me out as an excellent multiplayer game that is buried under a poor direction.

Kirby: Battle Royale has potential to make you laugh and fun but, at the end, this adventure action game is not so good. With your friends, in multiplayer modes, will enjoy with its challenges but is not enough to reach the best Kirby's adventures.

Kirby Battle Royale is by no means a bad game overall, but it just has so little content that it barely warrants a lengthy play session, let alone a purchase. The mini-games themselves are fun and well-designed, but the overall package doesn’t do any of them justice. If you need a dose of classic Kirby action, you’d be better off waiting for the upcoming Switch game, because this is one party that you can safely skip going to.
  9. Jan 26, 2018
The short Story Mode and the repetitive nature of the mini games available make for a game that you probably won’t come back to after you’ve exhausted what it has to offer.
  10. Jan 24, 2018
Kirby Battle Royale has well designed party minigames but its campaign is repetitive and disappointing. If you have friends to play it you’ll enjoy the madness of the battle but the whole game feels like an extra of past Kirby games and not as a full priced 3DS title.

It just feels like very little is actually on offer for a full priced 3DS game.

Regardless of what you think of Kirby, he deserves better for his 25th birthday. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 23E]

The game is indeed fun on multiplayer, while leaving the single player mode feel somewhat abandoned but overall it still feels like it's a collection of rather superficial minigames. It allows for some fun but it doesn't really grab the player's interest on a long term basis.
  14. Nov 17, 2017
Fans of the pink blob will be happy about this minigame collection that could definitely use more content.
  15. Nov 15, 2017
Kirby Battle Royale on Nintendo 3DS is a somewhat fun mini-game collection, but one that doesn't have much life outside of its three-hour or so story, and a handful of hours afterwards. Kirby is once again relegated to a mediocre little release that few will play, and fewer will remember a year from now. The biggest grievance with this, though, isn't the mediocrity or the lack of innovation - it's the cost. This is certainly not worth the asking price and it would be far more appetising if it was a good 50% off the RRP.

Download play in Kirby Battle Royale will give a group a burst of fun, but after that it’s unlikely you’ll return for more.
  17. Nov 8, 2017
A fun proposal in short bursts but it's too shallow to be interesting for long.
  18. Nov 6, 2017
Battle Royale is an interesting spin-off, and it's meant to be played with friends. The online community doesn't seem too active at the moment, so we can only recommend it if you have people to play it with.
  19. Jan 23, 2018
This isn't a bad game and some of the activities can be quite fun when played with real people. But these sub-games have always been the side-dish to the single-player main course, and without a worthwhile entrée, Kirby Battle Royale feels deficient.
  20. Jan 23, 2018
It’s a collection of ten minigames, half of which are fairly similar, and none of which are especially fun unless you have friends in the room with you, and even then only for an hour or two. The best I can say about it is that it’s functional online and off, but most of the Kirby magic has been sucked right out of this spin-off.

Two years ago, I can imagine Kirby: Battle Royale having a great online following and loads of people getting together at StreetPass events to play with one another. Now? Kirby: Battle Royale is honestly best left in the past. Nintendo still has a chance to redeem this game, simply by porting it to the Switch and allowing for multiplayer on a single, big screen. But until then? Just don’t bother. The minigames aren't all bad, but it just doesn’t feel worth it as a full price retail release.
  22. Nov 15, 2017
Kirby Battle Royale is a fun minigame collection that simply does not have what it takes to really stick. May be if the online features would work more smoothly, we would be more positive, but those are a disappointment too.
  23. Nov 13, 2017
Kirby Battle Royale is a missed opportunity, too repetitive and short lived.
  24. It’s not a bad game so much as a small one hardly worth the price. Unless you (or, more likely, your kids) are diehard Kirby fans who feel compelled to own every game in which Nintendo’s pink puffball appears, there’s really not much reason to invest.

What is here is essentially a mini-game collection coated in a Kirby presentation. It’s a fun game, especially when you get four players together and can experience the game at its full potential, but Nintendo has been delivering amazing quality this year, even on the 3DS, but this is a chip in their fantastic release schedule. Kirby Battle Royale is lacking any will to innovate. It’s happy to be playing it safe and be a standard multiplayer game that will loose its replay value fast, and with the weak single player challenge that becomes repetitive before it ends, the game does not offer much to the huge 3DS library available other than being a average bag of multiplayer mayhem.
  26. Nov 24, 2017
Since it arrived on 3DS, The Kirby IP is limited to subpar games and Kirby Battle Royale is no different with only 10 mini-games where Mario Party: The Top 100 will provide us with a hundred. We can't really understand Nintendo's strategy with it's pink mascot but we hope the Switch episode of Kirby will bring back the glory days.
  27. Nov 24, 2017
This game is boring and way too expensive. Kirby is cute but this game is nothing more than a couple of mini games.
  28. Nov 16, 2017
While a fun distraction, there’s little to recommend wholeheartedly when it comes to Kirby: Battle Royale. Its mini-games are well designed, but with a short Story Mode and limited replay value for its other modes, it becomes clear that this is not a stellar addition to an already bulging line-up. Kirby fans are probably better off saving for a Switch as the pink puffball is heading there next year.
  29. Nov 15, 2017
Battle Royale seems like a fun game at first, but repeating the same thing over and over again without really being challenged simply is not fun.
  30. Nov 8, 2017
Sometimes Nintendo puts out distinctly 'B-list' games, and Kirby Battle Royale falls into that category. While the main games in the series on 3DS offer creativity, smart design and generous amounts of content, this ultimately falls short on all counts. It's not a bad game, but it is mediocre, and the mileage and value it holds as a retail release will vary drastically depending on the players. For families and minigame enthusiasts able to dabble in local multiplayer it offers some fun, but sparsely populated online servers and a repetitive Story Mode leave little to write home about. Kirby may have many of his iconic abilities here, but the copy-and-paste approach and limited minigames mean this doesn't get close to the mascot's other 3DS games.

Really, it's hard to recommend this game, period. To see two rich, generous Kirby offerings on 3DS followed by something so stingy and lacking in imagination is depressing. [Christmas 2017, p.81]

If playing with three other friends is something you can see happening regularly, you might want to consider it because it can be great fun. Otherwise, the variations on arena battling here only capture your attention for so long before the whole thing starts feeling flat. Unless you regularly play as a quartet, this is sadly not one of Kirby’s finest offerings.
